One of our most popular news items recently was the April 22nd
announcement about which Columbia/TriStar-owned shows had been selected for DVD release because of the poll that they had given.
Dilbert was an especially welcome choice for its fans, and Columbia began work immediately on releasing
The Complete First Season.
And within the past 24 hours, many of you have written in to point out that
DVDEmpire has put a 2-disc version of this title up for pre-order, pending a release on September 30th.
We hate to let you down, but that's not accurate. Apparently someone at this online retailer (and perhaps others) simply missed the memo that Columbia sent out at the beginning of July. You see, this
was supposed to be part of the studio's 9/30 TV-on-DVD releases (along with
The Tick - The Entire Series and
Dawson's Creek - The Series Finale). But a few weeks ago something changed, and this revision notice came down:
Dilbert- The First Season- Deleted from 9/30 (new street date TBD)
As you can see, no reason was given. Since this was a poll-winner, we can only assume it's still happening, but that it is merely delayed. Perhaps for a legal clearance to happen, perhaps to add more material, perhaps MAYBE even to simply combine both seasons into a single release (a logical idea, since there are only 30 episodes in all). But this is all speculation, since Columbia as a policy doesn't discuss unannounced titles. And isn't this a good example of why? Unforseen delays happen all the time, in any industry.
So sit tight and stay tuned. As soon as the official announcement and release date come down, we'll have all the details for you. For now, don't put too much stock in the specifications listed at e-tailers. By the time the delay is over, this could be a completely different release! In the meantime, take a meeting and have a donut. And watch out for pointy-haired bosses.
