A Different World - Season 2...Cancelled? So Says Amazon!

Posted by David Lambert

A few weeks ago we reported that A Different World - Season 2 had been delayed from a planned July release until out in September. The reason was understood to be in relation to UrbanWorks' purchase by First Look Entertainment, which apparently invalidated the license for this show (and for The Cosby Show) that Carsey-Werner had given to the previous owners. First Look was trying to acquire that license, according to the report at the time by SitcomsOnline.com.

Now, in the past few days, there has been a flurry of e-mails sent by Amazon to the folks who had pre-ordered this box set from the giant e-tailer. The note makes it sound like Urbanworks' new owners won't be able to deliver this in September after all. Here's the full text of the message that many of our readers forwarded to us:
    Subj: Your Amazon.com order
    Date: 8/16/06 5:04:19 AM US
    From: order-update@amazon.com

    Hello from Amazon.com.

We are sorry to report that the release of the following item has been cancelled:

Different World "A Different World: Season 2"

Though we had expected to be able to send this item to you, we've since found that it will not be released after all. Please accept our sincerest apologies for the inconvenience we have caused you.

We have cancelled this item from your order.

TVShowsOnDVD would like to extend our thanks to everybody who wrote in with this! While we don't know what the end result will eventually be for the negotiations for First Look's UrbanWorks division to retain the rights to these shows, it's not looking good right now. Stay tuned, and we'll advise you of any further updates and developments that we hear of.
