Both "Dharma" (Jenna Elfman) and "Greg" (Thomas Gibson) have new shows out this current season (both on CBS) that are doing pretty well (Gibson's
Criminal Minds was doing pretty darn good in the Tuesday night ratings until
American Idol started back up and bashed in the brains of all competition, and Elfman's
Courting Alex was heavily hyped running up to debut, a strategy that resulted in a premiere episode on Monday Jan. 23rd which placed a strong 13th in the ratings that night). Add to that the fact that
Dharma & Greg is ranked a pretty darn strong 51st in the unreleased-to-DVD voting done by registered members here at TVShowsOnDVD, and you'll see why
I predicted that "
it's a safe bet we'll finally see Dharma & Greg make it to DVD at long last" in my first-of-the-year look at TV-DVDs we ought to see in 2006.
So it's come as no shock that we've heard from readers such as Andrew Pepoy and Kevin Martis that Elfman was on the red carpet at the Grammy Awards (Feb. 8th) talking about
Dharma & Greg, and how she's been rewatching the show lately in the way of doing some bonus feature participation. Let's let Andrew's note explain, since he worded it very well:
Hi! As always, thanks for the great site. You may already have heard this, but my wife told me that during the Grammys pre-show last night, Jenna Elfman mentioned she'd been rewatching Dharma & Greg because she was helping with getting the 1st season out this summer. Not a for-sure thing, but news that the project is still alive. Let's hope maybe they release the complete Townies to go with it.
Yep, it's been a week and a half since Andrew sent us that note, but we've held off posting it because we wanted to try to get some confirmation from our friends in-the-know. Mission accomplished! We have some pretty solid word that we'll see
Dharma & Greg's first season set on DVD sometime in
June or July. Now, that's not solid-as-a-rock just yet, and is subject to change (as are all early rumors...if you need help believing that,
read tonight's Time Tunnel news as confirmation). But stay tuned and we'll have official information once Fox Home Entertainment is ready to announce. The news sounds pretty good, though!
