The Showtime Original Series DEXTER is back with an all-new season, and this time America's favorite serial killer has gone from freewheeling bachelor to responsible husband and doting dad. Maintaining an average-guy facade while satisfying his need to kill has never been easy. But now, with wife and kids in tow, Dexter's got more to lose then ever, as he gets drawn into a deadly game with a killer every bit as dangerous - and conflicted - as he is.
We
alerted you a month ago that Showtime and Paramount Home Entertainment are preparing
Dexter - The 4th Season releases for both
DVD and high-def
Blu-ray Disc, per the Amazon pre-order listings at those links. The entries went up prior to the official studio announcement, though, so we didn't have the release date at the time...only pricing ($49.99 SRP for the 4-disc DVD set, and $64.99 SRP for the 3-disc Blu-ray set).
This morning Showtime/Paramount have officially announced the title for both formats, putting it on the schedule for
August 17th. The running time is 632 minutes for 12 episodes that include season-long guest star John Lithgow (
Footloose, 3rd Rock From The Sun). Video is in widescreen, with high-def 1080p on the Blu-ray version. Audio specs aren't provided yet, but are expected to be in line with the previous season sets (which have been English 5.1 Dolby Surround for the DVD, and English 5.1 Dolby TrueHD on the Blu-ray, and both with an option for Spanish 2.0 Dolby).
Extras haven't been finalized, it seems, but it looks like we will definitely see some BD-Live content on the Blu-ray version of the title. Package art isn't available yet this morning either, but will possibly use the same key image seen in the promo temp art currently showing at Amazon's pre-order listings. We'll update you when we get box art in, or any further details about these releases, so stay tuned!
UPDATE: The studio has now provided package art for both the Blu-ray and DVD editions of
Dexter - The 4th Season. Check 'em out!
