Last week we reported
that a pre-release listing at Walmart.com had let the cat out of the bag: the long-awaited DVD release of Designing Women - The Complete 1st Season
was finally scheduled for May 26th
. We let you know at the time, though, that there had been no official word on the title from Sony, who put out the 2003 "best of" DVD for this series. Even as we wrote our story, though, we were already suspicious that some other studio was actually going to be releasing the season set.
It turns out that we were correct about that, and that we also made a very good guess amongst ourselves about who the licensee was. Late yesterday retailers received official word from Shout! Factory and their distributor, Vivendi, confirming that they will release this title on the aforementioned date. Their basic description informs sellers that "Season One includes 21 half-hour episodes on a 4-DVD deluxe box set."
The earlier info from Walmart.com had said "widescreen," but Shout!/Vivendi's info yesterday overturns that: expect it in full screen, as originally aired, with a soundtrack in English and a 510 minute running time. Bonus materials haven't been finalized yet for this release, but Shout! is hoping to treat fans to an all-new cast reunion, if they can get everybody together. Cost information wasn't included, but we can take the $44.99 SRP previously given by Walmart.com as probably being accurate. Stay tuned and we'll update you, of course. Here's a look at the gorgeous cover art for this package:
