The BBC and Warner Home Video have decided to release a true classic of science fiction, the 1981 British mini-series
The Day of the Triffids. Like the 1962 Howard Keel film of the same name, this 6-part BBC production is based on John Wyndham's classic novel from the early '50s (and follows the book much more closely than the film did):
All humans eat vegetables. But what if we were the helpless ones, and the plants were eating us? Following the Earth's close encounter with a comet, a meteor shower strikes Britain's population blind. Bill Masen, recovering in a London hospital from a vicious plant attack, is one of only a few people to survive with his eyesight intact. But the world he emerges to has altered terrifying into a nightmare where man-eating plants -- the Triffids -- are gathering in force!
The
November 6th DVD release of the long-awaited cult classic mini-series includes a collectible 12-page booklet, for $24.98 SRP. Here's an early look at the cover art, which may be subject to change.
