A week ago today we brought you info and cover art for Davey and Goliath - Volume 1: 2-Disc Collector's Edition, releasing on June 7th (2 DVDs, $21.99 SRP). Now the owners of the show, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ECLA), has posted a press release with the set's contents. Our thanks goes to Kirk Sciola for pointingus toward the press release itself, and also to Danny Solazzi of the music group The Characters, who actually had sent us the list of episodes not long before the press release came out, after Danny exchanged e-mails with the folks at DaveyAndGoliath.org. Here's the art again, followed by the press release:

ELCA, Starlight Home Entertainment Initiate Agreement

CHICAGO (ELCA) -- The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) and Starlight Home Entertainment, Inc., Los Angeles, entered into a new agreement in February to make select original episodes of "Davey and Goliath" available on DVD for the public.

Davey and Goliath is a classic stop-motion animated television series starring Davey Hansen and his talking dog, Goliath. Aired on commercial television in the 1960s and 1970s, Davey and Goliath is a property of the ELCA. The church's mission with Davey and Goliath is to bring "moral and faith-based values to a new generation of children in lively and engaging ways."

Starlight Home Entertainment will make the DVD available in retail stores this June. The DVD includes the classic, 30-minute restored Davey and Goliath special "To the Rescue." At summer camp Davey, Goliath and friends rescue survivors of a plane crash. The program is also known as "Summer Camp."

The DVD also includes four classic, 15-minute episodes -- "Blind Man's Bluff," "Finders Keepers," "Stranded on an Island" and "The Kite" -- in restored format.

"The restoration brightens the film without losing the charm of the original look," said Kristi S. Bangert, director for marketing and interpretation, ELCA Department for Communication. The restoration, completed by a separate company, "is a manual, frame-by-frame process requiring much care and detail," she said.

Included as bonus material is the 2003 Davey and Goliath documentary, "Oh, Davey! History of the Davey and Goliath Television Series." Produced by the ELCA and broadcast on ABC television, the one-hour documentary showcases the development of Davey and Goliath and the stop-motion animation process. The documentary also includes interviews with Art and Ruth Clokey, original animator and creators of Davey and Goliath, Richard Sutcliffe, the program's original executive producer, and more.
