After the first five seasons of Fess Parker's
Daniel Boone series came to DVD in 2006 and 2007, fans have been waiting impatiently for the 6th and final season set to come out. Late last year we
reported that Goldhil had delayed the release until 2008; the plans at the time indicated that we'd see it early in the year. Obviously that hasn't happened, though, and when
word circulated last month that the studio was "financially strapped" (as
Video Business described the company), it gave us an idea about what one of the hold-ups may have been. And, if you visit Goldhil's old website, you'll be redirected to a new one that informs that "Cerebellum Corporation is the new exclusive distributor of the Goldhil Entertainment Library."
Now, however, new word has come to light this past week about the status of
Daniel Boone - Season 6 on DVD. Thanks to reader "D. Ferguson," we were pointed to a June 17th
article in Variety that talks about Fess Parker, giving a look at a 1968 story written by
Variety's famed columnist Army Archerd, and continuing with an update 40 years later. In that update, it says that "
His 'Daniel Boone' TV series ran on NBC from September 1964 to August 1970. Five of the six seasons are out on DVD and a sixth and final season is being readied for inclusion at Christmas." The story doesn't say whether that release would come from Cerebellum/Goldhil, though, and a visit to Cerebellum's (registration-required) business-to-business site shows a
Daniel Boone folder, but it's empty at this time.
Naturally we'll try to find out more about this release, and keep you updated as developments occur. Stay tuned!
