Inspired by the Academy Award®-winning Best Motion Picture of 2006, "Crash" is a provocative new 13-episode drama starring an ensemble cast led by film icon Dennis Hopper. Set in Los Angeles, the series explores the complexities of social and racial tolerance and the meaning of the American dream through characters whose lives intersect and collide as they strive to achieve that dream. It airs on the Starz cable network.
The drama features a disparate group of Los Angelenos, including maverick record producer Ben Cendars (Dennis Hopper); impulsive cop Kenny Battaglia (Ross McCall); his actress-turned-police officer partner Bebe Arcel (Arlene Tur); frustrated Brentwood mom Christine Emory (Clare Carey); her pre-bust real-estate developer husband Peter Emory (D.B. Sweeney); former gang member-turned-EMT Eddie Choi (Brian Tee); Ben's street-smart driver Anthony Adams (Jocko Sims); illegal Guatemalan immigrant Cesar Uman (Luis Chavez); and cocky, hot-tempered detective Axel Finet (Nick E. Tarabay).
Several week ago we
alerted you that Starz/Anchor Bay is preparing a release of
Crash - Season 1, and that Amazon was already taking pre-orders for it on both
DVD and high-def
Blu-ray Disc formats. The e-tailer didn't have a street date for these, however, because the studio hasn't formally announced them yet.
We're still waiting on Anchor Bay to make their formal announcement for this, but a release date has surfaced from another source. Our good friends over at Blu-ray.com
reported this morning that an early alert to retailers has come to their attention, which says that the title will be available beginning on
August 25th. No other new details were available yet there, or from our own retail contacts, but stay tuned and we'll update you further about this title just as soon as we can!
UPDATE (5/2):: Late yesterday we received a message from the PR firm for Starz/Anchor Bay, letting us know that the release date given above was not finalized after all, and that the schedule info we relayed from Blu-ray.com (which they themselves had gotten from their own retail sources) was not necessarily accurate. We see that Blu-ray.com has since pulled down the story they posted.
For ourselves, we've decided not to remove the story entirely. Rather than possibly confusing our readers with a "where did it go?" situation, we wanted to update you instead, to make certain fans are aware that the previously reported date isn't set in stone, and that nobody should end up being misinformed. Stay tuned, though, and we'll bring you the finalized street date for
Crash - Season 1 on DVD and Blu-ray Disc, just as soon as it becomes available!
