After a succesful run in the U.K. of Cracker, starring Robbie Coltrane ("Hagrid" of the Harry Potter films), ABC tried bringing the series to the USA in 1997. The new version of the show had a 15-episode run (including one double-length show near the end) from Sept. 1997 to Mar. 1999, finishing its run with the showing of unaired episodes on A&E. Only the pilot episode of the Robert Pastorelli-starring version has made it to DVD so far, however.
Artisan released that disc back in 2003, but this Summer - two years later - Goldhil Home Media will get a crack (forgive the pun!) at releasing more than that! Trade magazine Home Media Retailing reports that Goldhil has just signed a distirbution agreement that includes many TV titles, and Cracker was one of two mentioned. The article was also illustrated with the box art pictured here.
Distributor and producer Goldhil Home Media International has secured exclusive U.S. distribution rights to more than 100 TV series and feature films from Tango Entertainment.
Streeting in June on DVD will be the TV series "Cracker" and "Gun," which was created by Robert Altman with a cast including James Gandolfini, Kirsten Dunst and Randy Quaid.
Stay tuned, and we'll bring you more info about
Cracker on DVD just as soon as we can. Interestingly enough, one of the guest stars is Robbie Coltrane himself, the original "Fitz" from the U.K. series.
Law & Order: SVU's Mariska Hargitay also shows up in a couple of episodes. Regular cast included Angela Featherstone and Josh Hartnett.
