While we did indeed have
some bad news this morning about Bill Cosby's original 1969 series on DVD, there's no bad news here, where we're talking about upcoming DVDs of Bill's 1984 series, the classic NBC "Must-See TV" program from Thursday nights. In fact, all we're really doing here is clearing up a bit of confusion about this show's upcoming DVD releases.

Last weekend we
posted cover art for the
June 5th release of
The Cosby Show - Season 3 and
The Cosby Show - Season 4. That caused a bit of confusion out there, though, because some retailers are showing cover art that pictures a single box that says "
Seasons 3 & 4" on it, implying that both seasons will be packaged together into a single box. You can see that right now, for instance,
at DVDEmpire.com, and we've got it small and on the right. What's that all about?
We've checked in with First Look studios, who's taken over the license for this show's DVDs (and now own Urban Works), and they tell us that the releases of the 3rd and 4th season will for-certain only be available to consumers as two separate season sets. The "Seasons 3 & 4" artwork, as it turns out, is from a promo disc that was sent out to retailers to get them interested in buying the sets to stock on their shelves. So be prepared to make two purchases on June 5th, but don't worry: the list price on each is so low ($24.98 SRP each), that you should have no problem getting each set for under $20 street price.
Also, some REALLY good news here: First Look wants us to assure you that "the DVDs contain the complete, uncut and original episodes." That will certainly be a fan-pleaser! Here, once again, is the box art for each of the separate packages for the 3rd and 4th season sets:
