Some of our readers had probably noticed that we posted a
Comanche Moon DVD story early this month, but that we later took it down at Sony's request. The studio was concerned about the information being available prior to their official announce date, due to their own contractual obligations about not publicizing the home video release until after the CBS broadcast was completed. Since the final episode aired the other night, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has now formally announced the
Feb. 26th DVD release of
Comanche Moon. For those of you who missed the earlier story, we're going to cover the entire set of info again. To start, here is the official description:
Texas Rangers Woodrow Call and Augustus McCrae pursue three outlaws, Comanche war chief Buffalo Hump, Comanche horse thief Kicking Wolf and a Mexican bandit king. Now in their middle years, they also struggle with their personal lives, Gus with Clara Forsythe, the love of his life, and Call with Maggie Tilton, the young prostitute who loves him. Meanwhile their partners-in-arms Deets, Jake Spoon and Pea Eye Parker help the Rangers protect the advancing western frontier from the defiant Comanches who are determined to defend their land and way of life. Prequel to Lonsome Dove, and based upon the novel by Larry McMurty.
The 3-part mini-series stars Val Kilmer (
Top Gun, Tombstone), Steve Zahn (
Employee of the Month, Daddy Day Care), Rachel Griffiths (
Brothers & Sisters, Six Feet Under), Linda Cardellini (
ER, Freaks & Geeks), Karl Urban (
The Lord of the Rings trilogy, "Dr. McCoy" for the upcoming
Star Trek film) and Elizabeth Banks (
Scrubs, the Spider-Man film trilogy). The 2-DVD, 284-minute release is in Anamorphic Widescreen, with English - Dolby 5.1 audio and Subtitles in English and French. It is also closed captioned for the hearing impaired. The final list of bonus material consists of these featurettes:
- Behind the Scenes of Comanche Moon
- Riding Into the Sunset: Cowboy & Riding Training
- Comanche Heritage
Cost is $29.95 SRP, but you can pre-order it from Amazon at the link below for $20.99, as of this writing. The original story we had posted first contained early "temp" cover art which was not the final package artwork which you will see on store shelves. Below is a look at the front and rear artwork that Sony will use on the finished product:
