The DVD release of
Charmed - The Complete 2nd Season is, as we've told you, firmly set for Sept. 6th. But now Paramount wants to do a very quick turn-around and get
The Complete 3rd Season out before the end of the year, if possible, though a specific date hasn't been nailed down yet. Still, they are anxious to have a third DVD set available in time for the holiday gift-giving season, and there's not a
Charmed fan out there who will argue with a sped-up schedule!
Since there is no planned bonus material for these releases, it looks like Paramount Home Entertainment will indeed be able to pick up the pace. What's even more exciting is that we've gotten an early look at the third season's box art, from a source that provided it on condition of anonymity but has always proven very capable for us in the past. We're cautioned, though, that the design is still subject to change. We hope not, though, as it is a very nice arrangement:
This will be the last package which features these three particular faces, of course: the third year is Shannon Doherty's final season on the program before Rose McGowan would come on board in the fourth to replace her. New to the third season, though, is Julian McMahon as "Cole Turner." McMahon stayed until the 5th season, after which he went on over to
Nip/Tuck, and most recently turned up as "Doctor Doom" in the new
Fantastic Four big-screen film. McMahon dated Doherty for a while, did you know that? (we're sure most die-hard
Charmed fans already did!)
The 3rd Season's 22 episodes included guest stars like Rick Overton, Nancy Everhard, Vanessa Williams, Ron Perlman, and Joe E. Tata, among others. Musical guests - all of whom we hope make it to the DVD! - include Barenaked Ladies, Snake River Conspiracy, Marvelous 3, and Fastball. Stay tuned for the official announcement that will include street date plus any other information that comes to light.
Update: Paramount has informed us that this is early art and
will change before it's released in the US. Just a heads up.
