Some of our readers wonder why we cover the various
Charlie Brown/Peanuts specials, when we don't cover other notable (and classic) TV specials such as, say,
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. Our official answer is that we cover
Peanuts as a "series," albeit a long, drawn-out series with longer intervals between "episodes" than a week. We don't cover items that are strictly one-off specials, like
Rudolph, Frosty the Snowman, Live 8 or Barbara Streisand's concert specials....there are way too many of these, and the site is only run by Gord and myself (and not full-time, believe it or not!). We may bend the rule for specials that are "reunions" of classic television series, or for a truly legendary event like
The Day After.
We're going to bend the rules further today, and talk about movies a bit.
Peanuts movies, to be exact. After
9 Peanuts DVDs featuring 19 different specials, Paramount has not brought out any new releases with Charlie Brown, Snoopy, and the gang in over a year. Fans are wondering when we'll see the next
Peanuts DVD.
We've guessed for a while that Paramount had these in the works, but yesterday the studio confirmed that
March 28th will see the release of
Snoopy Come Home and
A Boy Named Charlie Brown, both of which first debuted in theaters. Each will go for about $19.99 SRP, and we have cover art below:
