Scott McGuire, who runs the FiveCentsPlease.org website (named after the cost of Lucy Van Pelt's "psychiatric help" booth in
Peanuts comics and cartoons), has our gratitude after alerting us to
his post last week about a new DVD release...and one exclusive to the CVS Pharmacy chain. We couldn't find it at the company's website, and not every location in my own area seems to have it in stock (so you may want to phone ahead before driving out of your way), but the title is
Charlie Brown's Christmas Tales, a collection of stories that runs 18 minutes long.
According to Scott's info, this is released by Warner Home Video, but does NOT carry the "Remastered Deluxe Edition" designation that other
Peanuts releases from Warner have included. This 2002 special was previously available on DVD from Paramount in 2004 as the bonus short on that studio's now-unavailable version of
I Want A Dog For Christmas, Charlie Brown. Warner's new CVS-exclusive release of
Charlie Brown's Christmas Tales includes a new-to-DVD special, 1983's "Is This Goodbye, Charlie Brown?" (about the possibility that Linus and Lucy would move out of town). Scott first found this title at his local CVS location last week, whereas a store nearest to me didn't have it until this week. Cost for Scott, and at the store near me that I phoned, was $12.99. I'll try to pick up a copy of this tomorrow for myself, but in the meantime we thank Scott not only for the info, but for the thumbnail picture shown to the right.
We don't have any official studio information about
