Warner Home Video has unveiled a new
Blu-ray Disc promotion, telling hi-def disc customers that if they purchase any 5 eligible Blu-ray titles listed between now and April 6, 2010 (a year from the beginning of this week), they will get a free Blu-ray Disc from a choice of 25 available redemption titles. All titles on both lists are subject to change, according to the fine print, but you can go to the website linked above to register for the program. Once you have performed your free registration, you can see the full list of titles that are a part of the program (there's a sweepstakes, too!).
Since the program covers the upcoming year, Warner has listed several titles there before they've been formally announced. Almost all of them are theatrical films, but four titles caught our eye! One we
already knew would be coming to Blu-ray Disc:
The Clone Wars - Season 1. Another title on the list,
Scooby-Doo: The Beginning, isn't actually an item we'll be covering here at the site. It turns out to be a direct-to-video third installment in the live-action
Scooby films, set up as a prequel to the first motion picture, and you can learn more about it
from MovieWeb if you're interested. Another item is
How the Grinch Stole Christmas, surely referring to the Warner-owned animated production rather than the more recent live-action film (which is under another studio's umbrella). But we haven't covered that special here at our site, despite being a TV classic, because it's a one-shot rather than an episodic series.
We HAVE covered the various Peanuts specials, though, since they are essentially a "series" of TV specials, that were released on a routine basis for a very long time (yeah, we're bending the rules of our site just a little to cover these, but we're certain that Snoopy fans don't mind!). Therefore, the other item we noticed on the list of Blu-ray Discs you can buy to build toward eligibility for Warner's reward program is none other than
A Charlie Brown Christmas, the original Peanuts special that first aired in 1965! Naturally, because this is just a listing on a rewards program, there's no details about what will be on the release, or when it will be available. It's certainly a no-brainer, though, to expect it late this year, in time for Christmas. UPDATE (4/9): Warner has apparently adjusted the information at their promotion's site, so that the full list of eligible Blu-ray titles - including the unreleased ones - will no longer appear. The screen capture below is now the only evidence we can offer of what that list had previously shown (although other sites around the 'net may have a list which includes more of the films). Following the change, the full list has now been replace with just a link, which the user clicks to open up a separate window which then lists all eligible titles whose street date has already passed (meaning that there are currently only three titles on the new list, but it will grow as time goes on).
