By now you all know the story: how Chappelle's Show
was a bit hit, how the DVDs came out for the first season, and how they sold so well that Dave Chappelle ended up getting a ton more money for the DVDs and for the show, and as the second season ended we all predicted really big things for this guy who first came out our attention in the Mel Brooks comedy Robin Hood: Men In Tights
. But then it all changed when Chappelle abruptly left the production of the 3rd season of his Comedy Central show, went to South Africa for a couple of weeks, and then when he returned it wasn't to the set of the program, but instead to go back to stand-up comedy.
Since then there's been a lot of speculation about what would happen to the footage already shot for the 3rd season. Comedy Central had talked about airing the footage or bringing it to DVD, but Chappelle urged them not to do that. Of course, what the studio really would like is for him to come back to work and finish producing the rest of the third season. Chappelle hasn't wanted to do that, either, apparently. We certainly won't claim to know all the ins and outs of this situation.
What we DO know is what you see below. Comedy Central's DVD distributor, Paramount Home Entertainment, has made available to retailers the UPC barcode for Chappelle's Show - The Lost Episodes: Uncensored
. Interesting, no? That part about "Sens" just indicates that the DVD will come with a "Sensormatic" brand security tag stuck to the inside of the box, to deter shoplifting...it has nothing to do with the DVDs themselves. Other than this, that's all we know. No date, no price, no nothing else. Just this.
But, it's an interesting heads-up. Stay tuned for more, as we learn it.
