HBO's series
Cathouse began life as an episode of their series
America Undercover...an episode which was
released on DVD over three years ago. The show that was spun off from that episode is very popular. In fact, HBO themselves state in their press materials that "
the 2007 edition (of the show) was the 5th highest rated series behind only The Sopranos, Entourage, Rome and Big Love." Now
Cathouse: The Series is featured on a new DVD release coming out on
October 7th.
Besides the original
America Undercover "Cathouse" special in 2002, and a second special after that in 2003, the series has consisted of 11 regular-series episodes in 2005, then 6 more episodes in 2007, then 3 special episodes early in 2008, including a January '08 installment called "
Cathouse: The Musical." Although one description of this release specifies that it is going to be "The 2007 edition featured on this DVD" (quoting HBO-provided materials there), the info sent to us by distributor Warner Home Video seems to say that all 17 regular-series episodes will be on board:
Returning to the site of two of HBO's highest-rated adult documentaries, these 2005 & 2007 Cathouse Editions take viewers back to one of Nevada's premier tourist attractions: the Moonlite Bunny Ranch, a legal brothel located in a sparsely populated desert community outside of Reno. In addition to up-close-and-personal interviews with Ranch management and the women who work there (many of whom appeared in the first two specials), 17- half-hour episodes will utilize hidden cameras in the brothel's "party rooms" to eavesdrop on customers and "working girls" before, during and after sex.
The series also includes footage of "workshops" designed to help customers (many of whom have come here with the blessing of their partners) learn about sex and become better lovers at home, as well as some wild-and-crazy revelry that takes place behind the scenes when the girls aren't working. Over 9 hours of Cathouse, including bonus special Cathouse: The Musical, on 4 discs!
Running time is 552 minutes, on a 4-disc set. Cost is $29.98 SRP. Right now Amazon
has a pre-order listing for the title, but we've noticed there are some errors there. It shows a lower list price for a two-disc set, which is a mistake. So we can't guarantee that they'll honer a pre-order at the current $17.99 discounted cost, but you can give it a try! You've seen the small, early look at cover art shown above (subject to change). Stay tuned for a larger look at finalized package art, once it's made available.
