Paramount Home Entertainment hasn't announced
Caroline in the City - The 1st Season for DVD yet, but nevertheless
Amazon.com has a pre-order listing for such a release. The listing originally went up last week, including the ability to pre-order it. Then it changed to a listing which wasn't taking pre-orders, but instead told Amazon customers to sign up on their list to be informed when this item was available for pre-order. Then, just in the past 24 hours, the listing changed back to taking pre-orders from customers again!
The REALLY strange thing about this particular listing, however, is that it's never shown a ship date for this release, not once. Because of that, and because our retail industry contacts have had no advance word yet of a
Caroline in the City DVD release being in the works, we've been unsure if this is really "newsworthy" for our readers. In the end, we decided to let you know about it.
In case you decide to pre-purchase it, even without knowing the release date, then you'll be interested in known that the actual cost at Amazon as of this writing is $39.99, discounted from a $44.99 SRP. No other details are given there about the set, and there's no package art shown there at present, either (just a customer-loaded image of star Lea Thompson wearing boxing gloves).
Besides Thompson (from the
Back to the Future films), the cast includes Amy Pietz (
Aliens in America), Malcom Gets and Eric Lutes. The 24-episode first season had a ton of great guest stars, including Jane Leeves (in character as "Daphne Moon" of
Frasier), Lauren Graham, Matthew Perry (in character as "Chandler Bing" of
Friends), Johnathan Silverman (in character as "Jonathan Eliot" of
The Single Guy), Jean Stapleton, Florence Henderson (as herself), Lorna Luft, Mariette Hartley, Morey Amsterdam and Rose Marie, Sharon Lawrence, Joseph Bologna, Joely Fisher, Kenny Johnson, Robby Benson (as himself), Kathy Griffin, John Landis (as himself), Vicki Lewis, Meshach Taylor, John Ratzenberger, Melora Hardin and Michael McKean.
We're trying to find out exactly what's going on with this mysterious pre-order listing at Amazon, so stay tuned for updates! Our thanks to everybody who wrote in to tell us about it.
