The Carol Burnett Show - 'Prime Time Specials Collection' puts 4 Early Productions on DVD

Coming from Legendary Entertainment Alliance in last August

Posted by David Lambert
As fans of The Carol Burnett Show know, the program ran for 11 seasons from 1967 to 1978, with the first five seasons (through 1972) produced by Bob Banner's "Burngood, Inc." outfit. As many of you are also aware, Banner additionally produced a number of Carol-starring specials which aired between 1962 and 1966, which eventually led up to her show becoming a regular ongoing series. These include Julie and Carol at Carnegie Hall (an Emmy-winning production with Julie Andrews), Calamity Jane (with character actor Art Lund playing "Wild Bill"), An Evening with Carol Burnett (which also won an Emmy for "Outstanding Performance in a Variety or Musical Program or Series") and Carol + 2 (featuring Lucille Ball and Zero Mostel).

As we've reported, Time Life is soon releasing a 22-DVD set titled The Carol Burnett Show - The Ultimate Collection, which brings fans 50 complete episodes from the 1973-78 era of the classic program, plus extras. Among the extras on that fantastic set will be "Rare sketches from the first five seasons of The Carol Burnett Show, not seen anywhere in over 40 years," and also "Three episodes from The Garry Moore Show where Carol got her start" (a 1958 program which was also produced by Bob Banner). After that item is available (exclusively online from, TL will also make three retail sets available of material from The Carol Burnett Show, each a subset of content found on the big Ultimate Collection, at different price points.

Now, separate from Time Life's four releases, a separate studio listed as Legendary Entertainment Alliance is preparing an August 28th release of Carol Burnett - The Prime Time Specials Collection. This item contains the four productions mentioned at the top: Julie and Carol at Carnegie Hall, Calamity Jane, An Evening with Carol Burnett and Carol + 2, all for $29.98 SRP! We're told by our industry contacts that this is a company that the late Bob Banner's son is personally involved in. The title is currently available to pre-order from at a discount (our thanks to reader Brent Seguine for the heads-up about this!). Cover art isn't available yet, but here's a studio description that was posted at Amazon:
The Carol Burnett Prime Time Specials Collection, not seen since their original air dates include Calamity Jane, Carol and Company (an evening with Carol Burnett), Carol Plus Two with Lucille Ball and Carol and Julie at Carnegie Hall. These specials were nominated for multiple awards including a Prime Time Emmy win for An evening with Carol Burnett Plus an Emmy and Golden Globe win for Carol Burnett's famous pairing with Julie Andrews in Carol and Julie at Carnegie Hall! These timeless TV treasures are brought to you completely re-mixed and remastered by Legendary Entertainment Alliance directly from the archives of Legendary variety show producer, Bob Banner.
