Last week (Nov. 6th), the studio called Legendary Entertainment Alliance released (through a distributor) a DVD titled "
A Carol Burnett Christmas," available both in a DVD-only version, and as a DVD/CD-soundtrack combo pack. With Carol's name and face on the cover, this was assumed all around - including here - to be material from somewhere amongst the 11-year run of
The Carol Burnett Show. Since fans began obtaining this item last week, we've been informed by our readers that this is not the case.
We're grateful to one of our longtime readers, Paul Mular, for filling us in on some of the details: the DVD actually contains 3 Christmas episodes ('59, '60, & '61) from
The Garry Moore Show. Carol Burnett was one member of that program's cast, of course, but the show was certainly not focused on her, and this is the cause of confusion and upset on the part of some people buying the product (since the title and cover art implies otherwise). I think it's important to mention here that this is not a product sanctioned/endorsed by Carol herself, as was recently mentioned publicly at her official fan site.
Also it's worth bringing up that our reader, Paul, further informs us that the
Candid Camera footage we previously reported about isn't actually a separate "fourth bonus episode," but rather is simply a segment included as part of the 1959
Gary Moore Show Christmas episode that's found on this disc. Another reader, Rob Sinclair, points out that the studio description we quoted in an Oct. 22nd story mentions a "
long lost Christmas special from The Entertainers" as included, but he was unable to find it; another disappointment. Going forward, TVShowsOnDVD is re-classifying this title (both DVD-only and DVD/CD versions) on our site as an item with episodes of
The Garry Moore Show, rather than
The Carol Burnett Show. We hope this clears up the situation, and we regret any confusion caused by the studio-provided information we passed along.
