3 weeks ago we
first revealed that
Carnivale - The Complete 1st Season would make it to DVD in December. Now we have much more to tell you than that!
HBO and distributor Warner Home Video haven't actually spilled the beans on this title yet. Instead, the source of these details comes from the previous week's issue of industry trade magazine
Video Business (which arrived a week late for me, side-by-side with the most recent copy). A two-page adverstisement catches your eye with a shot of this cover art, which they note is still subject to change:
The description of the show is nearby:
1934. The Dustbowl. The last great age of magic. In a time of titanic sandstorms, vile plagues, drought and pestilence - signs of God's fury and harbingers of the Apocalypse - the final conflict between good and evil is about to begin. The battle will take place in the heartland of an empire called America. And when it is over, man will forever trade away wonder for reason.
December 7th is the in-store date for this, and list price is $99.99 for what ought to be 12 hour-long episodes. They are trying to get this out in time for fans and new viewers to catch up before the new season premieres in January. Here's what else you'll find:
- Behind-the-scenes featurette detailing how set and costume designers collaborated to achieve the look of the Dustbowl in the 1930s.
- Museum of TV and Radio moderated panel with cast, creators, and crew discussing the production of Carnivale.
- Three audio commentaries with series creator Daniel Knauf, executive producer Howard Klein, and more.
- Episodic Previews and Re-caps.
Stay tuned, and we'll let you in on any updates to this set just as soon as HBO officially announces the title!
