CAGNEY & LACEY: THE MENOPAUSE YEARS, a compilation of four feature-length films that followed the TV series' conclusion, will be available for the first time in a Collector's Edition DVD set on sale September 29th for $39.95 SRP, and
CAGNEY & LACEY: THE RETURN will also be available as a single disc the same day for $12.95 SRP. What Gloria Steinem declared as "the best show on television" continues to entertain and enthrall audiences to this day.
From 1982 through 1989, audiences worldwide were riveted by the travails and triumphs of these intrepid and all-too-human characters as they faced the daily dangers of the New York streets as well as the equally volatile, and frequently valiant, events of their personal lives and relationships.
Five years after the network series ended, and to the delight of viewers,
CAGNEY & LACEY: THE RETURN (November 1994) reunited the duo as
NEW YORK MAGAZINE critic John Leonard observed "Šolder, thicker, smarter, wrinkled and not the least bit apologetic about it."
This movie remained true to the series. It offered quality drama that concentrated on the personal lives and the interaction between two complex women dealing with a tough and dangerous job. Sharon Gless and Tyne Daly are amazing actresses who played two of the greatest characters ever portrayed on television. The success of
CAGNEY & LACEY: THE RETURN begat three more successful films:
CAGNEY & LACEY: TOGETHER AGAIN (May 2, 1995),
CAGNEY & LACEY: THE VIEW THROUGH THE GLASS CEILING (October 25, 1995), and
CAGNEY & LACEY: TRUE CONVICTIONS (January 29, 1996).
The principal cast of all four movies includes Sharon Gless and Tyne Daly as well as James Naughton as James Burton, David Paymer as Deputy Dist. Atty. Feldberg, John Karlen as Harvey Lacey (Emmy® Award winner) and Molly Orr as Alice Lacey. Additional cast in the collection include Susan Anspach, Michael Moriarty, Sandra Oh, George Coe, Martin Cove, Rose Marie and Carl Lumbly, among others.
Included as special features in the DVD collection are intimate interviews with Sharon Gless, Tyne Daly, producer Barney Rosenzweig and writer Barbara Corday.
