C.S.I. - C.S.I. and the aspect ratio debate

A rare opinion piece for the site:

DVD forums on the 'net are in a tizzy because the upcoming "C.S.I. Season One" release is going to be 4:3 instead of 16:9. While I can understand that people are upset since they know 16:9 masters exist, I think it's wrong to blame Paramount . Paramount is the distributor of the title, and they can only distribute what they are given. The UK and Canadian releases of the show were also 4:3, so with the US release being 4:3 as well, this release is not handicapped compared to others.

Original Aspect Ratio of TV shows is becomming more difficult as shows make the move from the traditional 4:3 to 16:9. Since the show is broadcast in 4:3 and 16:9, either aspect ratio can be considered correct.
