The other day we
reported that
C.S.I.: Crime Scene Investigation will be getting its first-ever Blu-ray Disc release on
May 12th, with a high-definition widescreen version of the Las Vegas-based show's first season. Now our friends in the retail industry have given us some interesting updates about this release.
In the early info packet provided to them by the studio, we see some temporary artwork which shows a formal title of
C.S.I. - The 1st Season: Special Widescreen Edition. This probably isn't the finalized package design, though, since there's no indication there of the Blu-ray Disc format. Nevertheless, we've got a small look at it for you on the left. But please don't expect it to be the "store-shelf" version of the box cover; we'll update you when Paramount makes a picture of the finalized art available.
The high definition 1080p video and 7.1 audio are confirmed, of course. This 5-disc set has a total running time of 1025 minutes. In addition, there will be (in the words of the studio) "
brand new special features you can’t see anywhere else, including a new director’s cut of the pilot episode with audio commentary and featurettes bringing you closer into the world of CSI."
What's the cost on this? Sources tell us $99.99 SRP is the list price, an amount that's been confirmed today by
DVDEmpire's pre-order listing. The online retailer is currently discounting it to $78.99, though, if you place your order at this time (subject to change without notice, at DVDEmpire's discretion). There's also an
Amazon listing for this title, but they aren't taking pre-orders as of this writing. CBS/Paramount's
C.S.I. releases are only for distribution in the USA, not Canada, so fans north of the border who want this high-def release will have to import it.
Stay tuned for further updates, when more info becomes available!
