C.O.P.S. - Fight Crime In A Future Time on a 4-DVD Set!

Posted by David Lambert
Back in 2003, we reported on a few single-disc, 3- or 4-episode "best of" DVDs for various DiC cartoons. One of them was C.O.P.S., the animated series from the '80s about "fighting crime in a future time." Empire City's Central Organization of Police Specialists fought against Bigg Boss and his gang in 65 episodes in the late '80s, and it looks like DiC has decided that a 3-episode DVD just isn't enough to do the show (ahem) justice.

This past Summer, it was announced that DiC had a new partnership with The Shout! Factory, to produce DVDs of DiC's classic line of cartoons in multi-disc sets and distribute them via Shout!'s distribution system (which is handled by Sony Music, a mostly-musical division of Sony that also handles DVDs that include Bullwinkle, among others). The Shout!/DiC partnership started with The Legend of Zelda (which ships next Tuesday) and continues in March with The Super Mario Brothers Super Show.

Now e-tailer has a pre-order listing for a 4-DVD set of C.O.P.S., showing a February 28th release date for this. It is indeed shown to be distributed by Sony Music, which indicates that this DiC program is indeed going to be sourced from Shout!. List price is $34.95 according to the listing, but DVDPlanet will sell it to you for $24.47 if you order it from them now.

Neither Shout! nor Sony Music have any information to provide to us about this title so far, but we wanted to give you the heads-up. Stay tuned and we'll bring you more info, and cover art, just as soon as we can.
