Part of the fun of watching
Rocky & Bullwinkle & Friends episodes (like the ones
released to DVD sets) is the side 'toons for "Mr. Peabody & Sherman" (the dog and kid with the Wayback Machine) and "Dudley Do-Right" (the bumbling Royal Canadian Mountie potrayed by Brendan Fraser in a 1999 live-action film based on the cartoons).
Now Sony Music - which distributes the
Bullwinkle animated DVDs, is planning to bring out each of these side cartoons in their own "Best Of" releases in May. First up is
The Best of Dudley Do-Right, and we thank reader Suzanne Ferree for her e-mail that told us about that.
DVDPlanet.com is showing this as a
May 17th release.
Yesterday DVDPlanet added a
listing for
The Best of Mr. Peabody & Sherman as well, this time showing a
May 31st release date. Both releases have an SRP of $12.95, but you can pre-order them from DVDPlanet for just $9.07 each.
Note that this isn't the first time Dudley shorts have been seen separately from
Bullwinkle.
The Dudley Do-Right Show came along in 1969 and collected these episodes together for a separate show re-running the same material, lasting in syndication for years to come.
What will the DVDs look like? Sony Music hasn't released all their information just yet, but stay tuned and we'll pass it along once it's available. Then we can all get ready to set the Wayback Machine, and enjoy these classic cartoons!
