In our
general announcement yesterday, we promised to get back to you as soon as possible with further information. Well, it seems that the
Cartoon Research website has spilled the beans with all the details about
The Golden Collection ("TGC") 4-disc set, and
The Premiere Collection ("TPC") 2-disc set. They also have a great comparison shot of a frame from one cartoon, showing the difference that the remastering has made; please click the above link and take a look at it. There is no doubt that these shows will look fantastic!
TGC and TPC seem to share two discs: #3 and #4 of TGC 4-disc set will simply be repackaged and sold separately as TPC, according to Cartoon Research. Those DVDs that are in common to both releases concentrate on the Looney Tunes as a group. However, the extra two DVDs in TGC focus on the most popular characters: one is a Bugs collection, and the other is a Daffy/Porky collection. The most in-depth supplements are on these extra discs for the high-price set, but for those of you who can only afford the two-disc set, there are still some very nice extras waiting for you.
In our
original news item about these releases, animation historian Jerry Beck mentioned that he was involved with these sets. You'll find his commentaries on Disc 4 of TGC, which is also Disc 2 on TPC.
Here is the breakdown of the two releases, according to Cartoon Research:
