As you know, this November 15th sees the first-ever collection of Bugs Bunny/Looney Tunes shorts on high-def Blu-ray Disc, with Warner Home Video's 3-disc release of "
Looney Tunes - Platinum Collection, Volume 1" (available in both regular and collectible "Ultimate" editions). This
Platinum release, even in its regular form, is primarily aimed at passionate fans of Bugs, Daffy, Porky, Road Runner, Wiley, Speedy, and the rest.
Today Warner has announced a high-def Blu-ray release aimed at more casual fans. Despite the "first time" phrase in the studio description quoted above, it's actually not: essentially this is just the first disc of the "
Platinum" release, sold separately for $24.98 SRP and titled as the "
Looney Tunes Showcase, Volume 1." It will be available on
January 10th, and includes the same 25 shorts (including commentary tracks by the likes of Jerry Beck, Paul Dini, Eric Goldberg and others, as well as alternate audio tracks) and 6 featurettes that are found on the
Platinum release's disc one.
This may be a better choice for fans who just want to watch a few of these shorts with their kids in HD quality, without spending the money on the more expensive titles. Here's the list of contents, and the package art is at the bottom:
