She added, "We think this collection offers a wonderful selection of Looney Tunes cartoons that range from very early, rarely seen film shorts to some all time favorites. Although consumers may have seen some of these cartoons on television over the years, watching them on these DVDs will make them feel like they are seeing the shorts for the first time. We've made painstaking efforts to restore them to their dazzling, original look and to present them in their authentic, un-edited version. This is a DVD title consumers will surely want to add to their home entertainment libraries."
Consumers will feel like they've struck gold with Looney Tunes Golden Collection Volume Five. The set includes four discs, which are comprised of 60 classic shorts, plus more than five hours of incredible special features, including Chuck Jones: Extremes and In-Betweens, A Life in Animation, a documentary focusing on the legendary animator, which originally aired on PBS. Bonus features will also include commentaries by filmmakers, writers, animators, historians, alternate audio programs and much more.
Each of the four discs featured in Looney Tunes Golden Collection Volume Five is dedicated to a Looney Tunes character or special theme. Disc number one pays homage to everyone's favorite "wascally wabbit," Bugs Bunny and his pal Daffy Duck. Disc two is a collection of Looney Tunes' wackiest takes on classic fairy tales. Disc three is devoted to the work of renowned animator Bob Clampett. Disc four celebrates some of Looney Tunes' earliest cartoons.
Looney Tunes Golden Collection Volume 5 Disc Descriptions:
Disc one is dedicated to the Academy Award ®-winning animated superstar Bugs Bunny and his frenzied pal Daffy Duck. This disc is comprised of 15 shorts, including such memorable cartoons as Buccaneer Bunny, which features Yosemite Sam as "Sea-Goin Sam," a pirate who tries to bury his treasure near Bugs Bunny's rabbit hole. Also featured is, Ali Baba Bunny, which stars Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck in a short that loosely parodies the tale of Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves. Transylvania 6-5000, has Bugs Bunny spend a night in Count Bloodcount's old castle after mistaking it for a motel. Additionally, Hollywood Daffy stars Daffy Duck, who sneaks his way onto the Warner Bros. lot pretending to be a tour guide after he arrives in Hollywood seeking fame and fortune. In The Upstanding Sitter, Daffy Duck stars as a babysitter who is employed by the Acme Babysitting Agency and is assigned to sit on a chicken egg which happens to hatch while he's on duty. Other titles on this disc include 14 Carrot Rabbit, Bugs' Bonnets, A Star is Bored, A Pest in the House, Oily Hare, Stupor Duck, The Stupor Salesman and much more.
Disc two is a collection of some of the funniest and most twisted parodies of legendary children's fairy tales starring an assortment of Looney Tunes' biggest stars. Fifteen shorts comprise this disc and include classics such as Bewitched Bunny, which features Bugs Bunny walking into the tale of Hansel and Gretel, where he meets the hideous Witch Hazel, whom he transforms into an alluring female bunny after he uses her own magic against her. Tweety and the Beanstalk sees Sylvester the cat meet an enormous version of Tweety Bird when a fast growing beanstalk, which sprouts beneath his cat bed, whisks him through the heavens and into the legendary giant's castle. In Paying the Piper, Pied Piper Porky Pig tries to rid the town of Hamelin of all its rats. Sylvester joins forces with the big bad wolf in Red Riding Hoodwinked when he learns Red Riding Hood is on her way to Granny's bringing Tweety Bird as a gift. Other shorts featured on this disc include The Bear's Tale, Foney Fables, Goldimouse and the Three Cats, Little Red Rodent Hood, A Gander a Mother Goose, Señorella and the Glass Huarache and many others.
Disc three is dedicated to Bob Clampett, the visionary, gifted animator, producer and director who along with Tex Avery was credited for developing the irreverent style of animation, which set Warner Bros. apart from other animation studios. This disc features 15 of Clampett's cartoons including A Tale of Two Kitties, which is a notable short as it's the cartoon in which Tweety Bird first makes his debut. A pun on the Charles Dickens' classic, the short also parodies comedic duo Abbott and Costello, as it stars two feline characters named Babbit and Catstello. Buckaroo Bugs stars Bugs Bunny in what happens to be the character's second official appearance in a Looney Tunes cartoon. In this short, Bugs Bunny stars as the Masked Marauder, a carrot thief whom Brooklyn's Red Hot Ryder must try to bring to justice. The Daffy Doc, features Daffy Duck in the role of Dr. Quack's assistant during an operation. Other shorts featured on this disc include Bacall to Arms, Crazy Cruise, Farm Frolics, Hare Ribbin', Prehistoric Porky, The Bashful Buzzard and several others.
Disc four celebrates Looney Tunes' early years and features several rarely seen shorts, including Porky at the Crocadero, which features Porky Pig aspiring to be a band leader at the Crocadero nightclub. Scrap Happy Daffy features Daffy Duck as a guard of a scrap yard, where he does his part to help with the war effort; however, the Nazis destroy his scrap yard by sending a goat to eat up his scrap pile. In Pilgrim Porky, the Pilgrims are led by Captain Porky Pig and set sail for America. Wise Quacks features a nervous Daffy Duck and his wife, who are expecting ducklings. When their littlest duck is kidnapped, Daffy enlists the help of Porky Pig to come to the rescue. Porky Pig learns a lesson about smoking in the short Wholly Smoke. On his way to Sunday school, Porky Pig takes a puff from a cigar belonging to a neighborhood bully who prompts him to hallucinate and dream of a smoke man named Nick O. Teen who teaches him a lesson about smoking. Other shorts featured on this disc include Alpine Antics, Eatin' on the Cuff or the Moth Who Came to Dinner, Milk and Money, I've Got to Sing a Torch Song, Polar Pals and several others.
