Yesterday Warner Home Video
announced the
January 12th release of
Bug's Bunny's Cupid Capers, a single-DVD title that contains the 1979 special episode broadcast as "
Bugs Bunny's Valentine". For those of you who are interested, our friends at ToonZone.net
have the run-down about which shorts lent sequences to make up this 24-minute holiday special.
Since yesterday we've found out that this feature isn't the only item included on this disc. In addition, Warner has committed to including extras in the form of "2 Bonus Classic Cartoons and an All-New Puzzle Game". We know you are wondering what those additional cartoons are, so we took a chance and shot a note to animation historian Jerry Beck of the
CartoonBrew.com blog, an expert who consults with Warner (and other studios) for releases such as these. He says that the bonus shorts are tentatively scheduled to be 1940's
Holiday Highlights (Merrie Melodies) and 1955's
Past Perfumance (Pepe LePew); neither has been released on DVD before. These are still subject to possible change.
Beck also tells us that collectors should understand that this release (and a few others planned for later) are not aimed at them. These are aimed at general interest consumers, and take advantage of holiday gift giving opportunities. However, there are several sets aimed at collectors coming up in 2010. That's good news, and we can't wait to pass on details about those once Warner finalizes them...stay tuned!
In the meantime, pencil in November 11th on your calendar, because Stu Shostak of Shokus Internet Radio's
Stu's Show informs us that on this date Jerry Beck will return as a guest on his call-in program. Beck will primarily talk about his involvement on the just-announced
Mighty Mouse, The New Adventures DVD for Paramount, but as always we're sure he'll speak a bit about
Looney Tunes, too. We'll try to get you details on that visit, a bit closer to the date.
