In mid-2008, we
posted news about Warner's DVD release of the
Looney Tunes Golden Collection Volume 6, which was described as "the concluding release" of the "
Golden Collection series. We were told by the studio that more
Looney-ness was on the way to DVD in 2009, and a separate source close to the project told us how they felt sure that the "post-
Golden" releases would not duplicate content from the six
Golden Collection multi-disc sets.
However, the only
Looney Tunes DVDs announced for 2009, aside from a couple of theatrical films (
The Looney, Looney, Looney Bugs Bunny Movie and
Daffy Duck's Quackbusters) turned out to be
next Tuesday's release of
The Looney Tunes Spotlight Collection Volume 7, which unfortunately is 100% duplicates of shorts already seen on the first three
Golden Collection volumes. Fans were hoping to see other releases announced in time for Christmas, but there's no gentle way to put this: it's not happening. Instead, today Warner announced their first
Looney Tunes DVD title for 2010...in time for a different holiday!
January 12th will see the release of the single-disc effort
Bug's Bunny's Cupid Capers, a tie-in for Valentine's Day that is a digital version of the 1979 special episode "
Bugs Bunny's Valentine." The re-titling of this 24-minute production on DVD is nothing new; it was released 15 years ago
as a VHS tape (and, in some markets, in the all-but-forgotten VCD disc format) using that same name. The cost of the DVD, featuring the voice of Mel Blanc, will be $14.97 SRP.
