Academy Award-winner Robert Duvall (1983 Best Actor in a Leading role, Tender Mercies) and nominee Thomas Hayden Church (Sideways) star in this moving Western drama.
Set in 1897, Print Ritter (Duvall) and his estranged nephew Tom Harte (Hayden Church) become the reluctant guardians of five abused and abandoned Chinese girls. Ritter and Harte's attempts to care for the girls are complicated by their responsibility to deliver a herd of horses while avoiding a group of bitter rivals, intent on kidnapping the girls for their own purposes. Classic Western action takes center stage in this dramatic miniseries
In September 2006 Sony released
Broken Trail on DVD, following its June debut on AMC. Soon the mini-series was getting noticed with critical acclaim, leading to 16 Emmy Award nominations! It won 4 of those, including "Outstanding Miniseries", "Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or Movie" for Robert Duvall (
Apocalypse Now) and "Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or Movie" for Thomas Haden Church (
Wings).
This morning Sony has announced a Blu-ray Disc edition of
Broken Trail, coming out on
June 10th. This release will be in the USA only, as Sony doesn't not have rights to release this in Canada. Cost is going to be $28.95 SRP.
The anamorphic widescreen presentation on this Blu-ray release will be in 1080p High Definition. A number of 5.1 soundtracks are included for various languages: English, French, Spanish and Portuguese (Brazil). There will also be a large number of subtitles included: Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin Traditional), Dutch, English (US), French (Parisian), Indonesian / Bahasa, Portuguese (Brazil) and Spanish (Latin Am).
The only extra on the DVD release was a making-of featurette. Extras for the Blu-ray release have not yet been announced, but we'll keep an eye open for that information. Package art for the Blu-ray Disc version isn't ready yet, either, but stay tuned and we'll bring it to you when it's available.
