Notwithstanding the legions of Britney Spears fans who disagree, the 5-episode UPN series
Britney & Kevin: Chaotic was fairly heavily trashed by critics all over the place, from the
New York Daily News ("stinker") to online-only reviews like
Buzzle.com ("train wreck").
The Hollywood Reporter wanted an hour of his life back, and
RewardTV.com reported that the show's ratings were "toxic."
Here at TVShowsOnDVD, neither of us have seen the show for ourselves, so we can't judge yet. We know we're gonna get all kinds of hate mail from Britney fans for passing along the bad reviews...but really, we're just the messenger (don't shoot us). And, as one fan at Amazon has said, "Who cares what critics say? The fans love it!"
But we HAVE seen the cover art for the upcoming DVD for this series, and we can't honestly say we think much of it. It looks horrible! Maybe the artists at Jive Records were going for a "chaotic" look to match the title of the program, but while they succeed admirably (if that was their plan), this doesn't look like the sort of thing that retailers would feel is going to stand out and jump off their shelves:
That art comes to us courtesy of
Amazon.com's pre-order listing, who is selling this in advance for $13.99 based on a $19.98 list price.
Billboard magazine
reported that this DVD was due on
August 23rd, but Amazon is showing a
SEPTEMBER 13th release date instead.
It's a 2-disc set, with 1 DVD and 1 CD. Besides all 5 installments which chronicle the growing relationship between Spears and Kevin Federline, culminating in their surprise marriage and Spears' pregnancy, there will be 30 minutes of bonus footage, videos for "Do Somethin'" and "Someday (I Will Understand)," and a "making-of" for the "Someday" video. The CD includes at least "Someday (I Will Understand)" and "Chaotic," and possibly more. Thanks to all the readers who spotted the Amazon listing and e-mailed us about it, starting with "Kevin M." Stay tuned for any further developments.
