Below is the official press release and package art from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment for "Breaking Bad - The 5th Season
," which will be in stores on June 4th
. We have previously reported that we expected this release to be the "complete" fifth season, but our readers were quick to point out that the episodes from the final half of this final season won't have even aired yet by that street date.
Today we spoke to our contacts at the studio, and they confirmed that these DVD and Blu-ray releases will indeed only contain the first half of the fifth season, despite the lack of any wording like "Part 1" or "Volume 1" in the title. The studio apparently made a conscious decision to simply call this 8-episode release "The 5th Season
," while they fill it up with amazing bonus material (including a scene filmed exclusively for this physical media releases!). The final group of episodes will be released separately later on, in an as-yet-untitled release on DVD and Blu-ray.
Will there be a "Complete 5th Season
" set later on, combining both halves of the season? No word on that yet, nor on any eventual "Complete Series
" set either. Stay tuned, of course. For now, here's the finalized Blu-ray package art, the press release, and then the previously-posted DVD packaging:
