The Brady Bunch - A Bunch of Groovy Extras on Season 1!

A few weeks ago we told you that The Brady Bunch - The Complete 1st Season would arrive in stores on March 1, 2005, with follow-up seasons planned in early June, laste August, and November (approximately every three months).

Paramount, who is distributing these DVDs, confirmed the March date to TVShowsOnDVD's regular correspondent, Pavan Badal. Pavan also obtained from the studio a list of the bonus material that has been put together to accompany the 25 episodes from the 1st Season:
  • Commentary on the pilot episode "The Honeymoon" by Creator/Exec Producer SHERWOOD SCHWARTZ (Disc 1)
  • Commentary on Episode 12 "A Camping We Will Go" by BARRY WILLIAMS ("Greg"), CHRISTOPHER KNIGHT ("Peter") and SUSAN OLSEN ("Cindy") (Disc 2)
  • Commentary on Episode 23 "The Hero" by BARRY WILLIAMS, CHRISTOPHER KNIGHT and SUSAN OLSEN (Disc 4)
  • "The Brady Bunch: Coming Together Under One Roof " (15 min. 38 sec.)

So 3 commentary tracks and a featurette are the extras on this release. There are also a couple of things to note historically about the first season, to reduce confusion later on: 1) The theme song during the first season was not sung by the actors portraying the Brady Kids; it was instead sung by an act called The Peppermint Trolley Club. We hope that this original version of the theme song is intact on the Season 1 release. 2) The production order and the airdate order of the episodes in the first season were wildly different. The episode numbers mentioned above in Paramount's list reflect the production numbers of the episode titles they go with. The production numbers of the original season, when placed in airdate order, look like this: "0, 1, 5, 6, 4, 2, 3, 12, 9, 14..." From the above, it is probably a safe assumption that the box set will have the episodes in production order.

Either way, it's okay, because we're still getting some classic episodes in this bunch: Tiger chases the never-again-seen cat Fluffy across the tables with the punch bowl and the wedding cake, the kids think their parents are unhappy with each other after spying a letter to a newspaper advice column, the girls protest a boys-only clubhouse so Mike builds them one of their own (but better), Bobby goes on trial for the disappearance of Cindy's Kitty Karry-All doll, Mike installs a pay phone, Greg and Marcia compete for class president, Cindy asks Santa to restore Carol's lost singing voice, the boys and girls compete for trading stamp prizes by building a house of cards, Marcia gets braces, Peter saves a little girl from being hit by falling shelves at a store, Marcia's diary goes missing, the house becomes "haunted" just as soon as Mike puts it up for sale, and Jan receives a mysterious locket.

We're still waiting on cover art for this long-anticipated release, so stay tuned and we'll bring it to you just as soon as we can! Our thanks to Pavan Badal for his usual good job and valued help!
