Buena Vista has sent over the offical press release for
Boy Meets World - Season 1, and it shows different extras than they mentioned in their original heads-up notice, which
we posted last February.
In that original notice, the extras - which had a disclaimer that they were subject to change (good thing, too!) - were listed as "Audio Commentaries, Outtakes, Deleted scenes, Behind The Scenes/Making-Of featurettes, a "Where Are They Now?" retrospective, 'and more' "
Now read the press release, and you'll see it mentions only commentary tracks and an unnamed bonus episode. But don't get hot under the collar just yet! Read on afterward as we investigate the discrepencies:
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Debut Season Available On DVD For The First Time
BOY MEETS WORLD SEASON 1
On Three Disc DVD Set August 24
BURBANK, Calif., July 8, 2004 - The first season of TV's popular, beloved show Boy Meets World will be available on DVD with Boy Meets World - Season 1, the complete debut season from Buena Vista Home Entertainment. Available on August 24, this three-disc DVD set includes the pilot episode, all 21 first-season episodes and a special bonus episode.
In Boy Meets World - Season 1, the people in the world of teenager Cory Matthews (Ben Savage) test his theories about life and relationships, including his girlfriend Topanga (Danielle Fishel), his best friend Shawn (Rider Strong), Cory's older brother Eric (Will Friedle) and his family in general. Things get even more interesting in school where the ever-present and wise Principal George Feeny (William Daniels) continues to make Cory's and Shawn's lives more challenging. Feeny, who still lives next door to the Matthews, has a unique way of always seeming to know what unpredictable antics the young men are up to. This first season introduces the characters, who are typical American teenagers going through the pains and pleasures of growing up.
This wonderful DVD set includes optional audio commentary from Ben Savage, Rider Strong, Will Friedle, Danielle Fishel and Michael Jacobs on select episodes. Available for $49.99 (S.R.P).

So, with the press release only promoting commentary tracks and an unnamed bonus episode, we dug a bit deeper to find out what happened to the rest of it.
According to what we found out, the extras currently listed in Buena Vista's system for this release are:
- Never-Before-Seen Outtakes And Bloopers
- Behind-The-Scenes Featurette: "Yesterday And Today"
- Audio Commentaries
Whew! So the only thing that seems to have changed from the original notice is that they combined outtakes and bloopers into a single extra, and they combined the "Where Are They Now?" footage in with the behind-the-scenes footage, to make a single "Yesterday And Today" featurette. Oh, and they've added the bonus episode to the mix (the title of which doesn't seem to be available just yet).
So Buena Vista's press release simply left out a few things, which might disappoint fans who were looking forward to the rest. We're happy to tell you that, the way things look now, there's no need to be disappointed. Everything's there and accounted for so far. Stay tuned, and if that changes (it still could), we'll let you know!
