Sex. Power. Murder. Amen. "The Borgias" is an explosive story of history's original crime family. Conspiring with his ruthless sons Cesare and Juan, and poisonously seductive daughter Lucrezia, the charismatic Rodrigo Borgia's reign as Pope Alexander VI embroils the Catholic Church - and all of Europe - in scandal.
Amazon.com (the U.S. branch) has begun taking pre-orders for a release of Showtime's The Borgias - Season 1
! This listing is prior to Paramount Home Entertainment's official announcement for the title, though, so instead of a street date Amazon only says "This title has not yet been released. You may pre-order it now and we will deliver it to you when it arrives.
" Pricing is available, though, currently showing $49.99 SRP (you can, of course, lock in your copy right away at a discounted price, if you order it using the link above). There are no other details available so far at Amazon.com's entry, nor is there cover art yet (just a promotional image). Nor is there any mention of a Blu-ray version being available to pre-order. Stay tuned, however, and we'll update you further on this title, just as soon as we find out anything more! Our thanks to reader Alex Teitz for making us aware of this item...and for the following information, too, about a separate Canadian release.
Like another Showtime series, The Tudors
, home video rights to The Borgias
is held in the USA by Showtime/Paramount, but north of the border the rights go to Phase 4 Films. And, as with The Tudors
, the States don't seem to be getting a high-def BD release, but in Canada fans can pick from either a standard DVD or an HDTV-friendly Blu-ray Disc version. Both will be out on August 30th
, and both have the same list price of CA$74.99 SRP. Titled The Borgias - Season 1: Uncut Edition
, each set is expected to contain bonus material, but if that's indeed the case then Phase 4 hasn't provided any details about extras so far. They have provided package art, however, and we've got that for you below. There's also a button link to pre-order these from Amazon.ca (the Canadian branch) at a nice discount!
