The Bob Newhart Show - Is 'The Complete 5th Season' Coming to Home Video at Last?

No availability date yet, but Amazon is taking advance orders for the DVDs

Posted by David Lambert
In 2005 and 2006, Fox Home Entertainment released DVDs of the first four seasons of Bob Newhart Show, the 1972-78 sitcom co-starring Suzanne Pleshette, Peter Bonerz, Marcia Wallace (The Simpsons and Bill Daily (I Dream of Jeannie). For the past five years, fans of the program have impatiently been waiting for the show's final two seasons to come home. Now, a pre-order listing at shows that might just be in the works at last! The studio, however, has made no official announcement for the title, so instead of a street date Amazon only says "This title has not yet been released. You may pre-order it now and we will deliver it to you when it arrives." Pricing is available, though, currently showing a $20.99 pricetag to the consumer who pre-purchases it now.

There are no other details available so far at Amazon's entry, and there IS some sort of box art there, but we fear it might just be some temporary artwork (after all, the graphic layout and design is nothing like the style of the previous four season sets). Nor do we have word about the sixth and final season, OR Bob's later popular sitcom, Newhart, being continued on DVD (Amazon has their routine "give us your email, just in case" listings for those titles, but unlike the item we're talking about today, the e-tailer isn't accepting pre-orders for any of those). Stay tuned, of course, and we'll update you further on this, just as soon as we find out anything more! Our thanks to several of our readers for e-mailing in to tell us about Amazon's listing.
