This past Friday we received a helpful note from one of our readers, Joseph Loiacono, alerting us that the VideoETA website (a site run by the "creative marketing" group at Ingram Entertainment's wholesaler headquarters) had posted a "just announced" listing for
Blossom - The Complete 1st & 2nd Seasons on DVD. The info provided there goes on to say that this would arrive on 6 discs costing $49.99 SRP, with a release on
January 27th from the studio "Buena Vista." The name Buena Vista Home Entertainment used to be that of the division of Disney which put out all home video releases; approximately a year ago they changed that division's name to Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment. We talked to our contacts with Disney, who assured us that
Blossom was NOT one of the many TV-DVD items on their upcoming release schedule...not at all.
Yesterday afternoon, though, we found out what the situation actually is! The title IS coming. But it's not coming from Disney. Instead, this is one of the TV programs they've licensed out to the great team at Shout! Factory, which has done a terrific job with other Disney/ABC TV licenses, that include
My So-Called Life and yesterday's release of
Sports Night. Our friends at Shout! have confirmed the January 27th street date for a 6-DVD set. They also tell us that they are in the process of filming DVD bonus material to go with this release, and that they'll provide us with details on those extras once everything is finalized.
Our thanks to Joseph Loiacono and all the other readers who wrote in about this, as well as to the folks at Shout! for straightening us out on this confusion, and at Disney's publicity contacts for being as helpful as they always are. We'll update you with more info, plus package art, once Shout! is ready. Stay tuned!
