After waiting all this time, fans have been thrilled about yesterday's studio press release
from Warner about the July 29th release of Birds of Prey - The Complete Series
. But what if you could get it two weeks sooner?
A short time ago the studio sent out an "e-announcement" to retailers and press, showing off the first look at the package art for this release. The text that grabbed our attention was the part that said "streets 3 days before The Dark Knight
hits theaters!" (seen below). Glancing down a bit, the announcement shows a July 15th
release date for this set, a date confirmed by a separate listing at Warner's password-protected press site. We just called Warner, and they confirmed that the real release date IS July 15th for this title. AND we also got a high-resolution look at the package, too! See it below the e-announce clip.
So enjoy this release 2 weeks earlier, and enjoy your first look at the box. Oh, and ignore the "order due date" part; that's for retailers (to know when they have to get orders in with the studio, if they want those copies on shelves in time for street date). Nothing for consumers to worry about!
Two things about the release that won't please fans; the unaired pilot won't be part of the set, and Warner's press site currently lists this as Full Screen (1.33:1). We have an email in to the studio to confirm the aspect ratio since the show was shot in widescreen, and aired overseas that way. It could be an error with the listing since they also list the audio as being mono, and that's clearly a mistake (likely Dolby Surround). We'll post a separate news item if the the aspect ratio changes.
