Yesterday DVDPlanet.com posted
a pre-order listing for
The Bill Cosby Show - Season 1 in a 4-DVD set. If that title is an accurate reflection of the product, then this would be Bill's 1969 series which lasted for two seasons and 52 episodes on NBC. Cosby played Chet Kincaid, a P.E. coach at a high school in L.A. who also had to be a substitute teacher in other classes (English, Math, etc.) from time to time. This was Cosby's first network series after his successful run with Robert Culp on
I Spy, and prior to his time on
The Electric Company and the creation of
Fat Albert.
This show was the first of Cosby's that focused on entertaining the audience while teaching life lessons along the way. Cosby sang the vocals on the show's theme song, which he co-wrote with Quincy Jones. The first season had 26 episodes with guest stars like Vic Tayback, Wally Cox, Lou Gossett Jr and the legendary Henry Fonda!
And, according to the DVDPlanet listing, it will come to DVD for $39.95 SRP (discounted to $27.97) on
June 20th. The studio listed is Sony BMG (also known as Sony Music), but they often are a distribution channel for studios such as Shout! Factory or Classic Media, so we're keeping our eyes open for studio information from a variety of places. Stay tuned and we'll bring you updates on this release just as soon as we have them!
