Long before the Ewings of Southfork, widow Victoria Barkley was matriarch of the Barkley Ranch in The Big Valley. Set in the old west, this 1965 hour-long ABC drama starred Barbara Stanwyck as "Victoria," and her adult-aged children were played by Richard Long (as the lawyer "Jarrod"), Peter Breck (as ranch manager "Nick"), Linda Evans (as the daughter "Audra") and Lee Majors (as step-son "Heath").
Our industry sources have let us in on the secret that Fox Home Entertainment is preparing a DVD release of this classic television program this Spring. While the exact release date has not yet been announced, all indications point to a release in the second half of May. All 30 first-season episodes are expected to make it onto this release, which we're told will still be quite affordable: expect it to have a list price in the $40 range. Guest stars a-plenty showed up in this series, and the first season saw the likes of Vincent Gardenia, Walker Edmiston, Charles Bronson, Martin Landau, Ronny Howard, Yvonne Craig, William Shatner, Bruce Dern and Richard Anderson, among many others.
We still don't have any details for this, and no wonder since Fox hasn't made an official announcement just yet. They're expected to do that soon, though, so stay tuned and we'll be back with all the details just as soon as we can!
