A promotion page found at Best Buy's official website tells us that
The Big Bang Theory - The Complete 3rd Season is coming to home video in the third quarter. Instead of only coming for standard DVD, as the first two season sets did, the show's third year will also come on the high-def Blu-ray Disc format, too!
BestBuy.com provides a release date of
September 7th for both versions of the title. Sources tell us that this date isn't necessarily final, though, so if that moves for any reason, then please don't be surprised. The same sources did confirm that it will be coming on both DVD and Blu-ray Disc formats, but at this time there's no word yet on whether the studio will go back and do BDs versions for the first two seasons, though.
Cost shown at Best Buy's site is is $39.99 for the DVD and $44.99 for the Blu-ray version of
The Big Bang Theory - The Complete 3rd Season. However, these are NOT the list prices for either set; they represent BestBuy.com's current discounted pre-order cost (subject to change without notice, at Best Buy's discretion). The promotion page also talks about visiting the Facebook fan page for the retail chain, "
to vote for which Big Bang Theory T-shirt design you'd like to see released this fall in conjunction with Season 3." However, a quick visit to Best Buy's page on Facebook doesn't currently turn up any such poll; hopefully it will be added in the near future (
UPDATE: BestBuy.com's promo page links to the wrong Facebook account for the seller; the t-shirt poll can be found here). And hopefully we'll have further info for you about these releases in the not-too-distant future, too! Stay tuned for updates, as developments occur. Our thanks to reader Matt Handler for tipping us off to all of this.
UPDATE (2/17): Amazon is also takng pre-orders for
the Big Bang Theory - The Complete 3rd Season both
on DVD and
on Blu-ray Disc. The standard DVD shows a list price of $44.98 SRP, but is currently discounted to $31.49 at Amazon. The high-def Blu-ray is shown with a list price of $59.99 SRP, but as of this writing Amazon is discounting that cost to just $41.99; this puts the discounted cost of each noticeably lower than Best Buy's current prices. Keep in mind that all of of those discounted amounts are subject to change at the sellers' discretion, without notice. Note that the Amazon listings, typical of their advance orders this far in the future, don't show a street date but rather just say, "
This title has not yet been released. You may pre-order it now and we will deliver it to you when it arrives." We should still be looking at the release date situation described above, though. Our thanks to reader Eileen Jungwirth for having the eagle eye and spotting the Amazon listings!
