This past May saw the release of
Bewitched - The Complete 6th Season on DVD. It arrived following a long wait from the July 2007 release of the 5th Season set. Lately fans have been getting a bit anxious (and even somewhat hostile, in a few rare cases!) about the lack of an update regarding the 7th Season DVD set.
This is an season many fans are definitely wanting in their collections, too! The 28 episodes from this next-to-last year of the show begin with 8 episodes that surround the famous trip to Salem, Massachusetts, the American city that is most associated with witches. Guest stars this season included Cesar Romero, Bert Convy (as Paul Revere!), Jonathan Harris, Edward Platt, Imogene Coca, Vic Tayback, Felix Silla, Tom Bosley and Marcia Wallace. Not to mention the appearances of classic recurring characters played by Alice Ghostly ("Esmerelda"), Bernard Fox ("Dr. Bombay") and Paul Lynde ("Uncle Arthur")!
The delay could just be another long wait, but Sony's track record on DVDs with a number of TV shows, such as
All in the Family and
The Jeffersons (which each got to six season set releases by early 2007, but haven't been heard from since), is working against them here with the trust of potential consumers. Their reputation regarding those titles, and others, has gotten
Bewitched fans worried that the same fate might possibly be in store for Samantha Stephens!
We checked in with Sony, though, and they tell us "never fear!" The studio DOES indeed have plans to continue releasing this series on DVD. Right now they are looking at the
first part of 2009 for
Bewitched - The Complete 7th Season. But they haven't nailed down any specific date so thoroughly that they're willing to share it with us just yet. They're going to wriggle their noses and get it done, though, and we'll update you as further developments occur. Stay tuned!
