The Beiderbecke Tapes (mini-series) - The Sequel Mini-Series, Following The Beiderbecke Affair, Comes to DVD
2-disc set produced by Acorn Media arrives in mid-September

Can't two Yorkshire schoolteachers stay out of trouble? Not when one is a jazz fan with a knack for sleuthing. Two years after the events of The Beiderbecke Affair, Trevor Chaplin (James Bolam, New Tricks) and Jill Swinburne (Barbara Flynn, Cracker) are enjoying a calm, settled life. Then someone gives Trevor a Bix Beiderbecke tape that includes a top-secret conversation about nuclear waste. Suddenly life isn't so quiet anymore: A man shows up at their flat and threatens to break their bones. Six armed suits start following them wherever they go.
Like The Beiderbecke Affair, Trevor and Jill's second adventure is filled with tongue-in-cheek repartee and odd characters: a man without a name, octogenarian Americans on holiday, and the oldest suffragette in town (Beryl Reid, Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy). Written by award-winning playwright and screenwriter Alan Plater (A Very British Coup), it also features a jazzy soundtrack composed by BAFTA-winning musician Frank Ricotti.
The U.K.'s Sunday Time called The Beiderbecke Tapes "A second helping of the original, delicious meal"...and now Acorn Media is bringing it home to DVD in the USA ($39.99 SRP) and Canada (CA$52.99 SRP) as a 2-disc set. Available on September 15th, this 154-minute presentation is shown in full screen video and English Stereo sound. Here are the descriptions of the two parts of this production, followed by the package art:
His home demolished for a motorway, Trevor moves in with Jill, bringing along his extensive collection of jazz music. She's less than thrilled when the bartender at a local pub adds to it even more. But one of the new tapes isn't music at all: it's a secret recording that Britain's top security forces want back-or else. Meanwhile Mr. Wheeler, their headmaster at San Quentin High, insists that Trevor and Jill join a class trip to Amsterdam.
Hoping to uncover more about the mysterious tape, Trevor attends the bartender's funeral and encounters someone unexpected. Back at the flat, six men in gray suits break in and search for the tape. Believing their lives are in danger, Trevor and Jill leave for Holland, with the mysterious men in hot pursuit. A branch of the Ancient Order of Elks comes to the couple's aid, but the lodge members are looking for a little action of their own.
