We never rest here at TSoD, not even on the Memorial Day holiday! And apparently Warner Bros. isn't taking the entire holiday off, either: they've taken the time this morning to issue a press release for a new DVD and hi-def Blu-ray Disc versions of the classic Tim Burton movie: Beetlejuice - 20th Anniversary Deluxe Edition. The fun film from 1988, starring Michael Keaton (Batman, Mr. Mom), is completely remastered for this new issue, and will offer a great look at "the ghost with the most" along with co-stars Winona Ryder, Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis. It will be in stores on September 16th.
So what's the TV-on-DVD angle here? Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice! Say it three times, and get three episodes from the show! Both the DVD and Blu-ray Disc releases will include 3 episodes from the 1989 animated series, which aired on ABC Saturday Mornings during 4 hilarious seasons. The episodes are Season 1's "Skeletons in the Closet," Season 2's "Spooky Boo-tique" and Season 2's "A-Ha!." According to the press release, these episodes will be the primary bonus material on these discs, although the high-definition Blu-ray release will also get a bonus soundtrack sampler CD as well. The press release notes, however, that "All enhanced content listed...is subject to change."
Cover art isn't available yet for either version, but we're on the lookout for it. Note that, on the Blu-ray Disc version, the *film* is going to be in hi-def 1080p resolution, but the bonus cartoon episodes are more likely to be in standard-definition (480i or 480p) resolution. The DVD release goes for $19.96 SRP, and the Blu-ray Disc release will cost $34.99 SRP.
