TWEC (Trans-World Entertainment Company) is the umbrella corporation behind a group of retail outlets which are all owned by them: mall-based stores such as FYE and Saturday Matinee, and free-standing stores such as Coconuts, Planet Music, Strawberries, and Wherehouse Music. Consumers of these stores are familiar with their usual form of DVD hot release promotion: instead of a low in-store "sale" price at the cash register, you would instead get a mail-in rebate that brings the final price down to something irresistible. For instance, one FYE advertisement flyer from this week that we've seen shows that
Beavis and Butt-head - The Mike Judge Collection Vol. 1 will be $27.99 plus tax in stores (price may vary by location), but that you can
mail in for a $7 rebate and bring your final pre-tax price down to $20.99...nice!
On top of that, though, TWEC has apparently taken a page from Best Buy's game plan, and arranged to have an exclusive bonus DVD packed inside the boxes. This special holiday disc, pictured below, contains the episodes "Huh Huh Humbug" and "It's A Miserable Life." These are shorts that dedicated
Beavis and Butt-head fans may already have on DVD, as they have been released twice before (in
1997 and in
2002). But, as it's a great price to begin with, and since the bonus disc comes with it regardless, you may want to head in that direction and get one while supplies last.
As we said, the disc comes pre-packaged inside the box, in a plain white sleeve, and isn't visible from the outside. The packages are specially marked with "FYE Exclusive," or whatever store name is appropriate. We have no idea if an online order would net you one of the bonus discs; our anonymous contact (whom we thank) was not in-the-know in regard to that.
