Matty's Funday Funnies, the 1959 show hosted by sponsor Mattel's mascot "Matty" (and which eventually transitioned into
Beany & Cecil, of course) was the original television home for cartoon shorts of
Casper the Friendly Ghost. Those cartoons, owned by Harvey Cartoons but produced by Famous Studios (the same folks that put out
Popeye the Sailor shorts for a while), have seen
some DVD releases in the past. Now Classic Media, which owns Harvey these days, is preparing a new pair of discs with older
Casper shorts, apparently all from this classic era.
August 26th sees the release of both
Casper - Classic Collection Vol. 1: Trick or Treat and
Casper - Classic Collection Vol. 2: Casper & Wendy Scare Up Some Fun. Each of these are a single disc containing 12 cartoons running approximately 65-70 minutes. Video format is the original 1.33:1 "full screen" aspect ratio, and audio is in English mono. List price is $9.93 SRP for each of these, and you can pre-order both
Volume 1 and
Volume 2 from Amazon right away. We only have the cover art for
Casper - Classic Collection Vol. 2: Casper & Wendy Scare Up Some Fun so far, but here's a look at that!
