Our last two updates about releases of the modern version of
Battlestar Galactica were stories in
May with rumors of a HD DVD release of the first season, and then
in early August (just a week and a half ago) with the heads-up about a DVD release of the upcoming "
Razor" telefilm (about the history of the Battlestar Pegasus). This morning, Universal Studios has formally announced both releases!
The rumors of the HD DVD version of
Battlestar Galactica - Season 1 put the release in the September timeframe, but all of our sources warned us (and we warned you in turn) that this timeframe was extremely subject to change. It certainly did move, and today's officialy studio info puts the set on store shelves this
December 4th. Cost will be $99.98 SRP for a 6-disc set (all single-sided "HD-30's") with widesceen video, English Dolby True HD 5.1 Surround, English Dolby Digital Plus 5.1, and Subtitles in English and French. Running time is 755 minutes. We don't have box art yet, but we have a disc-by-disc breakdown of the extras on this HD DVD version (all the DVD extras, it looks like, plus a few new ones specific to the hi-def release):

Moving forward (AND backward) in time, the DVD release of
Razor - which we've
already given the lowdown on, will also ship on
December 4th, with a single-disc (single-sided) release priced at $26.98 SRP for this
Unrated Director's Cut. Video is widescreen, audio is English Dolby Digital 5.1, with English subtitles. We don't have cover art yet for this one, either, but stay tuned.
